How to Convert PCX to BMP

PCX and BMP are both old PC-era formats, but BMP's uncompressed structure is even more universally readable than PCX's RLE-compressed format, since some minimal or embedded software has no PCX decoding support at all. Converting PCX to BMP guarantees the image opens in software that can only handle the simplest uncompressed bitmap structure.

Since BMP stores data uncompressed while PCX applies at least some compression, expect the converted file to typically be larger than the original PCX, especially for images with large flat-color areas where PCX's RLE compression works particularly well.
